Are you having issues with your blog?

In the past couple of days, I’ve had more than my normal amount of email regarding some issues with your areavoices blogs. Most of them pertain to the following problems:

1. Blog being marked as spam
2. Blogs not being listed on your profile page
3. Stats module missing from dashboard

If you’re having any of these problems please let us know. Your best bet is to email support@areavoices.com or go to the support blog at http://support.areavoices.com.

We are currently working on these issues and apologize for the inconvenience. I know it can be really frustrating. But again, don’t hesitate to let us know, so we can make things right!

On another matter, we are aware of people manipulating the comment ratings system on the Topics blog, and at this time there isn’t anything we can do to prevent it from happening. We are looking at ways to stop it from happening and are open to any suggestions you might like to offer.

Finally, for those of you who hold your breath and get all jittery when you hear about updates. WordPress has been updated to Version 3.1.1. It’s basically a security and maintence update. Nothing for you to do. It’s handled. Basically the update from WordPress improves performance and security.

  1. Being marked as “spam” would be better than what is currently happening. Readers are getting the message (or something close to it) “Blog Suspended for violation of conditions of usage (Spam)!” If you are going to have Word Press set so hypersensitive to spam that writers get routinely kicked out, you may want to use wording that allows everyone to know what is really happening instead of publically accusing the writer of violations.

    • I agree. I love Modern Day Jane. I don’t think it was marked as Spam. I see her latest post on InForum right now.

      • I don’t know about “Modern Day Jane,” but my blog was showing up on the Grand Forks Herald Online site when I was suspended. When a reader clicked on it, it gave them the message I spoke about above. Not a nice thing to tell my readers!

  2. My blog was also incorrectly blocked as spam this morning and I can’t figure out anyway to resolve the issue. I have e-mailed support@areavoices.com and filled out a comment form at the Word Press. com website as well. I use my blog to publish weekly articles about landscaping and keeping water clean, and can’t think of any reason why I would have become blocked suddenly. This week’s article was about community supported agriculture and composting. I included links to websites for a local farm, the Land Stewardship Project, Recycle MN and the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency. I also included a photo of a compost bin. Currently, I can’t even log into my areavoices account. It is frustrating, as I also publish these articles in several local newspapers and many of them pick the articles up driectly from my bog when the weekly posts are sent out on twitter.

    • Angie, I know your blog very well. It’s full of great information. For some reason, WordPress is currently blocking some legitimate blogs as spam. I have no idea why it is doing this. I know that real Spam is a continuing issue and in trying to tackle the problem legitimate blogs might be getting caught. I am so sorry. Emailing support@areavoices.com is your best bet. Our support manager is able to unmark these blogs as spam pretty easily. For anybody else facing this problem please email support@areavoices.com.

  3. My individual account has been blocked for reasons I am unsure of. I have not been using profanity, and have been civil. An explanation of why its blocked would be appreciated.

How can I have this block removed or do I need to start a new account under a different name.

    • Do me a favor and send me an email telling me what happened. After a software update a couple of weeks ago, some legitimate Areavoices bloggers got caught in the spam filter. This might be what happened to you. If so, it’s a quick fix. I just need your blog address. You can send it to me at tracy.briggs@fccinteractive.com. Sorry for the inconvenience.

  4. This wasn’t on a blog, it was an In Forum commentary and my nic is now blocked.

I was having a discussion on the law the house of representatives was passing that would allow religions more freedom in government.

I was talkin with Zardoz… he was accusing me of being an athiest and catholic hater, but I was only denying it while maintaining my stand that I don’t want laws that allow others to force their religion on me. They cut most of that entire dialogue out, you can see it if you look at my past posts.

I wasn’t using profanity and was remaining civil.

  5. The North Valley Arts Councils blog is also currently encountering the same issue. I’ve emailed support and hopefully we will be up and running in no time!

    • Thanks for letting us know so quickly. This is one of those technical glitches. In its exhuberance to catch real spam, our spam filter is a little too overzealous. I hope nobody is taking it personally. It has nothing to do with your posts. Just a quirky little glitch that is pretty easily fixed. Just always let us know asap!
