After the week we’ve had we NEED these blogs!

It’s always fun to welcome new bloggers to Areavoices. But in a week that’s been full of tension and conflict, (thank you Campaign 2012), it’s especially fun to welcome two FUN new blogs. Kayley Erlandson’s blog “Media Girl” is refreshing and well-written!

Dr. Melissa Baartman Mork is a psychology professor at Northwestern College in St.  Paul, Minnesota. Her blog takes a closer look at the importance of humor in life. Isn’t that nice to think about after this long week! Enjoy!

We’ve seen the news stories and read the reports from the oil boom in Western North Dakota.  They paint a vivid picture of both the good and bad that come with an economic boom and population explosion. Areavoices Digest #74 – Are you training for the marathon?

Their numbers seem to multiply around this time every year. The snow is gone and the weather hasn’t yet turned hot. Runners are coming out of the woodwork, some to train for upcoming marathons (The Fargo Marathon is May 17-19th) and others simply to get their daily exercise.

There is no shortage of advice out there about what it takes to be a runner, but let me steer you towards one of the best. Steve Wagner, an editor at the Bemidji Pioneer, is an avid runner who started relatively late in life. But as the title of his blog suggests, he’s already hooked. In his blog, Steve offers training advice, nutrition and encouragement for runners of all levels.

He’s just the first in our recommended blogs of the week.

Coming soon to a TV near you…

A few days ago, I told you about our newest testimonials from happy Areavoices bloggers. Seeing as though we can’t let words of praised heaped upon us go unnoticed, we decided to put them into a TV commercial for all to enjoy. Actually we have six commercials from bloggers Scott Brusven of the Fargo-Moorhead Community Theatre and MS Simplicity Melissa Schmalenberger. The commercials illustrate how blogs are featured all over the region including Fargo-Moorhead, Grand Forks-East Grand Forks and throughout North Dakota, Minnesota, South Dakota and Wisconsin.

Melissa and Scott share with us why blogging has been so sucessful for their businesses and why it’s an integral tool for anyone targeting customers under the age of 50. But the commercials also tell you more about their blogs and what kind of content they deliver. We’re hoping to produce more commercials in the coming weeks to further spread the message of Areavoices blogging. Why you should read them and why you might want to consider writing one yourself.

To access the commercials, just go to the bar at the top of this blog. Click on “Videos.” When the drop down menu appears, click on “Promos/Commercials.”

Areavoices Digest #34 – How to keep Facebook friends from cringing

You know those Facebook posts – the ones that make you scream “Ewwww! TMI!” Too much information. They share intimate details of their lives, whether it’s potty habits of their children or a fight they’re having with their ex-husband. Makes me cringe. That’s why I’m especially excited to welcome a new blogger to Areavoices who hopes to give us a little help in becoming better users of social media. She writes just one of the blogs I’m recommending in this week’s digest:

Exciting Trend: Your blog could become a newspaper column!

It’s something called “Reverse Publishing,” taking content from areavoices blogging and rerunning it in the print edition of the newspaper.

In the past two weeks The Forum of Fargo-Moorhead has selected 7 featured blogs to appear in the newspaper. We always knew areavoices bloggers had something to say and this is further proof!

The posts included everything from how to make gourmet baby food to “10 Ways to Avoid Winter Hibernation” to how to organize your office.

It’s all about great usable information that will help our readers. It doesn’t matter if it starts on a reporter’s notebook or on a blogger’s post.

Stay tuned for more areavoice bloggers in your paper!
