Areavoices Digest #72 – Spinach Bacon Mac and Cheese and Black Russian Cake

I enjoy writing my little blog on the Areavoices community. I really do. I love sharing news of the latest and greatest blogs on the platform. But deep down, I think I’m a frustrated food blogger.

As evidenced by my consumption this week of a great food blog called Lagniappe. (See link below). It’s written by Beth Rickers of Worthington, Minnesota.  I was attracted by a recent post in which Beth describes a pretty decadent meal that starts with Spinach Bacon Mac and Cheese and ends with Black Russian Cake. Hello! The diet can take a break for a day.

Beth is consistent with her recipes and she’s a great writer. It must be so much fun to write about so much deliciousness. Lagniappe is just one of our recommended blogs of the week.

Areavoices Digest #67 – More than just Marilyn Hagerty

That title you see above is my cheap ploy to get you to click on my blog. I’m not beneath trickery. But the fact is: Marilyn Hagerty is hot. Stories about her and now her Areavoices blog are generating huge traffic from around the world for this website and many more. I love it! Not just because of my position as Areavoices cheerleader, but because Marilyn seems like a wonderful woman who deserves all the attention and accolades she’s getting. I’m just wishing I could have been the one to accompany her to New York City, instead of my co-worker Ryan Babb. Anyway, I told him to say “hi” to Anderson Cooper for me.

That being said, my point is this. I wanted to let you know Marilyn Hagerty isn’t the only  hot commodity on Areavoices. Check out this week’s group of new and recommended blogs. Enjoy!

Areavoices Digest #19 – February 16, 2011 “Spanning the Globe, etc”

Remember that old “ABC Wide World of Sports” slogan….”Spanning the globe to bring you the constant variety of sport..”
Well I feel like this digest could be “spanning the region to give you a constant variety of blog.”

I’m particularly happy with this weeks fivesome because they come from the far reaches of Forum Communications newspapers and websites. (Western ND, South Dakota, Southern MN. Sorry Wisconsin, I don’t have any Wisconsin bloggers this time around. But I did cheer for the Packers so I’m not that horrible a person, right?)  Like last week, all of these blogs are already featured in at least one website in the company. I think they’re worth checking out.

The Prairie Blog – http://theprairieblog.areavoices.com  Jim Fuglie is a former writer from The Dickinson Press. He started his blog in December, took a little break but is active again. He says his blog will be about politics and prairie literature. He says he also wants to highlight “The Best of ND, etc.”  For example, he says he might write : “’Some Of The Funniest Things Ever Written About North Dakota’ over some excerpts from columns by Wayne Lubenow or Tony Bender or Lloyd Omdahl. Or ‘Some of the Best Songs Ever Sung By North Dakotans’ over songs by Chuck Suchy or Bobby Vee. You get the idea.”  I think this is really fun stuff!
Shootin the Wit – http://shootin.areavoices.com – Laura Stoneburner says her blog is “a column about life that should never, ever be taken too seriously.”  She’s written about her disdain for public grooming, why certain songs are overplayed on the radio and why Italian pasta isn’t that good in Italy. Now to our recommended blogs of the week:

Middle Minnesota – Views of a Moderate Poll – http://middleminnesota.areavoices.com  This is a blog written by State Representative Al Juhnke from Kandiyohi County in West Central Minnesota. He says “as an endangered species, that is a political moderate, I thought it may be interesting to publish my views from time-to-time. I Chair the House Agriculture & Veterans Affairs committee. The best overall description I can give you of myself is that I am a ‘Pro-life, pro-gun, pro-snowmobile, pro-scratching, pro-spitting rural Minnesota Democrat.’ Politics, Agriculture, and rural life views…stay tuned and enjoy.”

Our goal on areavoices is to get more politicians to start blogs. Rep. Juhnke posts pretty frequently and usually links people to relevant news stories from his district. If you’re a lawmaker, I’d love to help you start your own blog.

So much to do in Grand Forks - http://novac.areavoices In a way the title of this blog is a little misleading. Writer Marie Strinden actually profiles entertainment happenings throughout eastern ND and western MN.Strinden is with the North Valley Arts Council. I think people will enjoy her uplifting stories.
